Conference OverviewThank you for your interest in the “Amplifying Equity across the Peer Support Profession” summit on May 22-23, 2024, in Niagara Falls, NY. This cost-effective professional development summit brings together hundreds of organizations from across New York and various areas of North America. This summit will feature speakers with expertise and lived experience across systems that impact Adult, Youth, Family and Recovery Peer services and practices. The theme “Amplifying Equity across the Peer Support Profession” will offer deliberate discussions, workshops, research, and opportunities for challenging conversations; offering new ideas and best practices that amplify the voices and experiences of Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) Peers with a goal of transforming systems, services, and the workforce through the lens of equity. We also acknowledge the need to recognize and highlight intersectionality of various cultures, identities, generations, communities, and geographic locations. Registration fees are inclusive of breakfast and lunch both days, reception and all conference sessions: $225 per person $200 groups of three or more $150 one day pass (5/22 or 5/23) *Additional Eventbrite fees. **No refunds will be granted after May 10th and cancelations subject to 25% processing fee. |
Our Goals and Learning ObjectivesSystem: -Feature best practices and emerging models of Culturally Responsive Peer Support Services across systems. -Inform Policy and Practice Standards through the lens of equity to improve workforce strategies for the recruitment, retention, and advancement of individuals from diverse backgrounds. - Establish measures of accountability to hold organizations, institutions and stakeholders accountable for equitable practices that advance actionable change in communities of color. Practice: -To affirm the roles of Diverse Peers working as Peer professionals within Health and Human service organizations. -Develop a framework for a commitment from Behavioral health and service providers to improve the engagement and experiences of BIPOC populations. -Create interactive spaces to elevate conversations surrounding the intersectionality of the needs of BIPOC Peers who identify as; LGBTQIA+, those residing in rural communities, and Peers impacted by complex social needs. Communities: -Advance opportunities to reduce stigma and increase Culturally Responsive supports. -Equip underserved communities and neighborhoods with tools to implement community conversations relative to the needs of BIPOC Peers. -Introduce workforce models of Peer Support Services to small grassroots neighborhood-based organizations serving in communities of color. Leadership: -Advancing Equity internal and external - Leading through the lens of DEIB -Recruitment, Retention and Advancement of Diverse Peer Professionals -Allyship, Sponsorship and Mentorship CEUs- ** Social Work Pending Continuing Education credits for Peer Supporters for 10 workshops through the NYPSCB. Accommodations and Transportation Hotel accommodations are available at the summit site- Double Tree Hilton Hotel Niagara Falls located at 401 Buffalo Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14303. Transportation: There are various methods of Transporation from the Buffalo Niagara (BUF) which is appx 40min ride.
